Two Indonesian university students came to the shop in the evening. They brought in a badly damaged guitar for repairs. Initially, I advised them that the guitar was in such poor condition that it might not be worth repairing. However, they explained that they couldn't buy a new one for three reasons:
The guitar belonged to a friend.
They were only staying in Taiwan for 8 months and couldn't easily take the guitar back to Indonesia.
They had a limited budget.
Although I really didn't want them to continue using such a badly damaged guitar, I understood the challenges of foreign students living abroad. Lately, I had seen many foreign technicians working hard to repair almost scrap items, so I decided to help them out.
